Production technician

ScotBio is recruiting an individual to provide hands-on support and assistance during the various stages of the production process. The role will be based at our production plant in Lockerbie.

This is an entry-level position reporting to the Head of Production and is an excellent opportunity for a college graduate or a keen individual interested in direct, hands-on experience in the biotechnology industry. No prior experience in biosciences is necessary, though an interest in applied sciences, biotechnology or aquaculture may be advantageous.

The successful applicant will be professional, highly self-motivated with good time-keeping skills cable of adapting to a changing working environment as the production scales up. This is a full-time role offering 37.5 hours per week Monday - Friday (may include weekends).

Salary range: £20,000 - £24,000 commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in harvesting and processing of the spirulina biomass from the photobioreactors

  • Cleaning and disinfection of photobioreactors, production vessels and other production equipment in accordance with regular production cycles.

  • Maintaining, cleaning and calibrating scientific measurement equipment

  • Assisting in daily production activities including setting up new batches for cultivation, measuring and recording batch data and analysis of growth patterns and trends.

  • Housekeeping, maintenance and regular cleaning of the facility

  • Detailed and regular maintenance of LED lighting systems installed in ScotBio’s novel photobioreactors

  • Stock and inventory maintenance

  • Keeping all workstations/areas clean and tidy

  • Working to legal compliance procedures such as food safety, hygiene standards and other relevant company policies.

Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills,

  • Scientific data interpretation and evaluation skills are highly desirable

  • A scientific background or a reasonable understanding of scientific principles is essential.

  • Experience in food production or in a similar manufacturing or engineering environment is

  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills

  • Software skills/data handling (Microsoft Office packages Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

  • Flexible in availability for working hours (including weekends)

  • Basic understanding of biology or lab experience is desirable

  • Team player and a self-starter who can work independently is highly desirable

  • This position is primarily based in Lockerbie, the candidate must therefore have the means to get to and from the location at all times. Flexibility of working across different company

  • Basic understanding of quality management systems
