Laboratory technician

ScotBio is recruiting an individual to provide support in the R&D laboratory facility at its BioCity site in Newhouse, Scotland. This is a full-time role offering 37.5 hours per week Monday - Friday (may include weekends). Previous experience working in a laboratory environment (research, industrial) is desirable, with experience in the life sciences, industrial fermentation/bioprocessing, or aquaculture considered highly advantageous. This entry-level position represents an exciting opportunity for a motivated, organised and adaptable professional to apply and develop their skillset in an expanding sector. 

Salary range: £20,000 - £28,000 commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting laboratory managers during key processes in production and R&D, including harvesting and downstream processing

  • Data gathering using analytical instruments

  • Preparation of materials, reagents and solutions

  • Maintenance and cleaning of bioreactors and other processing equipment

  • Maintaining a laboratory logbook and regular report writing

  • General laboratory housekeeping duties including inventory monitoring and stock replenishment

  • Working to legal compliance procedures such as food safety, hygiene standards and other relevant company policies

Skills / Attributes: 

  • Demonstrable laboratory competence (e.g. use of analytical equipment, assays)

  • Flexibility of working across different company locations (valid UK driving licence)

  • Software skills/data handling (Microsoft Office packages Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to work on own or as part of a team

  • Adaptable; proficiency learning new skills

  • Flexible in day-to-day tasks, from analytical work to cleaning and manual handling

  • Professional demeanour, self-motivated, organised

  • Basic understanding of quality managements systems; Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)

  • A background in related fields (life sciences; chemistry/engineering; industrial processing; food manufacturing) will be considered advantageous

  • Full UK driving license
